Enjoying game 1 today of Spurs-Warriors! Amazing first half where once again SA made GS look ordinary. Be interesting to see if they can close it out this time, or give up the big lead like last time they met and this happened. Could make the series exciting if they can take this first game!
I get the feeling zaza is as clumsy and he's dirty. He broke KD as well Everyone talks about playing hard in the play-offs. That's playing hard. I guess Pops has forgotten he used to employ Bruce Bowen
I'm not entirely convinced that Zaza did that on purpose. Certainly nobody was to blame for the needless steps back onto the feet of his own bench that caused the first issue for Leonard a few mins earlier. I guess the benches are so close to court to allow the uber expensive court side seats to also be that close? To me it's a totally unnecessary risk and moving them back to protect the playing assets of the clubs would surely be worthwhile.
Anyway the way that GS came back was impressive. I feel that the momentum had already turned prior to his injury but that just added to the problem for Spurs. It brutally highlighted the issues they are going to have trying to contain everyone on this GS team. They cannot really do it with Leonard and definitely not without him that's for sure.
The problem is Zaza has a lot of history of dirty plays so it's harder to give him the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately it spoiled what could have been a great series, at least going on how game 1 started (you knew GS would make their run whether or not Leonard was still out there, but had he been there I think SA would have held on to win). The predictable blowout in game 2 followed (didn't bother to stay up for it) and now all we can do is hope Leonard can get back for game 3 and SA can defend their home court. At least if they can tie it up at 2-2 and look convincing again, we may still have a series - but seems a long shot.
Celtics-Cavs should have something going for it at least!
I honestly cannot recall seeing such a drubbing in the playoffs before and certainly not in those circumstances. The so called number one seed at home, coming off a thrashing in game one. Awesome how the Cavs just came out and stomped all over the seemingly helpless Celtics. I had a feeling Thomas would struggle against the Cavs. He is a tough guy but his size really counts against him against really good defences.....and when the Cavs are in the mood they are a very good defensive unit with James, Smith and Thompson.
This looks like a double sweep now with injuries wrecking Spurs faint hopes.
Yeah lets just get on with the finals, the conference finals have been a snooze fest and now Thomas is out the C's have no way back. Hopefully the finals will be like last year and rescue the situation! Lets see how KD performs against LeBron on the big stage.
It's ironic that the Spurs have been so crippled with injuries. In earlier rounds Pop was being lauded for his rotation policies in the regular season keeping his players fresh!
Still it was always going to be a tall order to beat the Warriors or the Cavs with Lebron playing like this. Isaiah Thomas was ineffective in G1 so not sure his injury made much difference. Teams with quality defences can always shut down small scoring guards. Remember Lebron locking up MVP version of Derek Rose pre injuries?
Hopefully the Celts show the same pride in G3 as Spurs did. Manu has the heart of a Lion. Aldridge seems to have a heart that needs a pacemaker and Gasol can't be the man anymore.
Gasol's performance was summed up in the first three minutes of the final period - tipping the ball into his own basket and then chucking up an air ball at the other end. Aldridge is now better. Those two were supposed to step up with Leonard and Park out, they've been dreadful.
At least Celtics gave us a game to watch last night, though it was probably more to complacency setting in than anything else.
I think LeBron had one of his lazy games where he just didn't try - lets see how game 4 goes as he'll be more fired up this time. Even so, how you go from a 44 point loss at home, and losing your starting point guard to injury, then being 21 points down in the 3rd on the road, to come back and win - impressive no matter how it happened. I'd love a Boston win in game 4, then its a brand new series. I just want something to get excited about, anything! But I do want Cavs to advance as I don't think Boston can hope to challenge GS and make the finals competitive.
2NFR: Hogg could do a lot worse, Sharks on a bit of a roll right now ... could be the top team next season (depends if Attiba stays or not)
